History

Fredrik von Otter is the third generation of his family to manage VastanĂ„ Manor and the ninth generation owner. VĂ€stanĂ„ Castle was built around 1590 by Count Sten Bielke. In 1641, Count Per Brahe became the new owner. He incorporated VĂ€stanĂ„ into Brahe County, the first and largest county in Sweden at the time. VĂ€stanĂ„ was restored 1767–1770 by the Baron Rutger Bennet and the stair-tower and baroque gables were torn down. The present owner is a decendent of Colonel Fredric Gyllensvaan who bought the manor in 1785 and established an entailed estate. In 1928, he demolished the third floor and the castle acquired its present exterior.
